THE NATIONAL LABORATORY OF THE CPHN HAS BEEN AWARDED THE STATUS OF A MEMBER OF THE WHO GLOBAL SYSTEM

On September 23, 2019, a ceremony was held at the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry for awarding a certificate of the World Health Organization confirming the status of the National Influenza Center as a reference laboratory for Virology as part of the Center for Public Health and Nutrition with inclusion in the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System.

The WHO certificate was awarded by the head of the organization’s country office, Ms. Paulina Karvowska. The ceremony was attended by heads and representatives of medical institutions, the media, as well as students and teachers of the Turkmen State Medical University.

As noted, the level of development of public health is one of the main indicators of the quality of life of the population in any country, the effectiveness of its state model and social policy. The nationwide long-term project in this area of ​​Turkmenistan has become the State Health Program.

With the assistance of the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Turkmenistan, systematic work has also been launched to prevent and diagnose the influenza virus and to control its spread in accordance with international standards.

The assignment of the status of the National Influenza Center by the reference virology reference laboratory of the Center for Public Health and Nutrition, which is part of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Turkmenistan, is evidence of WHO's high assessment of the activities carried out in this area.

The head of the WHO country office, Paulina Karvowska, noted that Turkmenistan has demonstrated commitment to the principles of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System.

In particular, the country is successfully implementing the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Mechanism, adopted at the 64th World Health Assembly in 2011, and has reached great heights in the field of epidemiological control and laboratory studies of influenza. She also expressed confidence that WHO and Turkmenistan will continue to build partnerships in the field of public health, and that the National Influenza Center will adequately fulfill all the obligations related to its status.
